Vaults From Lewes Castle

This was a very interesting project for the historians amongst us. Some vaults from Lewes Castle were uncovered while excavating for the new build of houses in Lewes. The builders came across these amazing vaults, used as stores to the castle while it was inhabited.

The project

We believe there are 8 new houses being built, but only 2 of the new builds will have the vaults. The area has now been damp-proofed and turned into a basement for each of the two houses. Our job at Fullers Plastering, was to cover a timber frame and to hide services using a render board.  We used bagged render (all recommended by Fullers), which gives a 20 year guarantee, to a sponge finish. This will all then be decorated.

Working in a confined space made this a difficult task as you can probably imagine but the results look fantastic. Fullers Plastering really enjoy the challenge of a project such as this and were very pleased with the results.
