Former 18th Century Pigeon House Conversion
A remarkable piece of East Sussex heritage is now up for sale: a beautifully converted 18th-century dovecote in the village of Laughton, once used to house pigeons for food and communication. This Grade II listed structure, circular in form and steeped in rural history, showcases the kind of craftsmanship rarely seen today. Built in the 1700s, it retains many of its original features — including over 500 pigeon nesting boxes arranged in honeycomb-like rows around the interior.
The property has undergone a careful and sensitive restoration, transforming it into a charming home while preserving its unique architectural character. One of the standout aspects is the lime render finish applied during the renovation by Fullers Plastering. We rendered this in krend silicone tc10 topcoat.
This traditional technique not only protects the historic brickwork but also allows the building to breathe, crucial for moisture control in older structures. The rendering complements the period detailing and enhances the rustic elegance of the exterior.
We also undertook the screed, plaster boarding and plastering of the internal works but sadly have no photos at this time.
