External Rendering of Brighton Orthodox Church
This is the external part of the Brighton orthodox church restoration project. The exterior facade was not just damaged by the fire but had many years of weathering from the elements. It is situated in a very predominate place not too far from Brighton seafront.
We have already successfully completed the interior of the church, as per our previous case study. Please click on these images to see more detail:
The Project
For this external aspect of the project, we had to re run mouldings in situ and re render areas to match the original. The ceiling was a particularly challenging part of the project. The steels supporting the opening, had to be repaired, before the render was applied.
The whole area was then supported with a stainless steel rib lath, before three coats of sand, cement and lime (which as you can imagine is a lot of weight in material) were applied. We successfully completed this, despite the laws of gravity……what goes up, must come down!
